Today I’ve gone to La Filmoteca de Cantabria, a special exhibition theatre in Santander where you can watch films V.O which means that they are not dubbed into Spanish. This time I’ve enjoyed watching a Woody Allen‘s film titled Cassandra’s Dream. Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell play two poor English brothers who get a life, one working in their father restaurant and the other as mechanic. They both buy a boat to spend their leisure time at weekends on board called precisely like the title of the film: Cassandra’s Dream.
Terry, the younger brother, the mechanic, played by Colin Farrell, likes gaming and bets and is very lucky but he’s going to suffer a bad loose. Ian, the older brother, played by Ewan McGregor, has his expectations beyond his actual job in his father’s restaurant.
The family has a rich uncle in the USA who doesn’t get on with his father but who helps now and then with money to the family tight budget. The brothers mother’s birthday is coming with the surprise of uncle Howard visit to London. This visit is going to change their lives forever in an unexpected way.
Here’s the trailer:
ATTENTION: It follows a detailed synopsis reported from IMDB that could spoil the film for people who hasn’t watched the film yet. You are warned :)
This is a better written synopsis of the film quoted in IMDB:
Two London brothers are hard-up for cash, and both have girls to look out for, too. When rich Uncle Howard comes to town and agrees to help them out, he admits his finances are under investigation, and he asks them to do him a favor and “take care of” an old business relation to keep his trouble under wraps – he says that they’re family, and since he always takes care of them, the least they could do is help him out this once, as they’re the only ones he can trust. The film follows their struggle with the immorality of this request and how each brother chooses to deal with it.
